Behind every building’s clean design and seamless functionality lies a complex network of systems such as mechanical, electrical, and plumbing — working quietly in harmony. At Tiong Seng, one of the people ensuring that harmony is See Jun, a Senior M&E Manager who has dedicated 20 years to turning technical precision into practical excellence.
Bridging Systems and People
For See Jun, her role is as much about connection as it is about engineering. She describes herself as a bridge, linking subcontractors, consultants, and various project teams to ensure that everything fits and functions as one cohesive whole. It’s a role that demands both technical knowledge and people skills. Within the web of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works, coordination is critical and often, what appears simple on paper can be a complex puzzle in practice.

Where Planning Meets Precision
See Jun starts her mornings by checking emails, reviewing ongoing issues, and identifying what needs urgent attention — setting the day’s direction for her team. Her schedule is filled with internal discussions, coordination meetings, and consultant reviews. Each one is crucial to keeping work on track.
“Without proper planning, the site cannot execute,” she says.
To her, planning isn’t just a step in the process; it’s the foundation of successful delivery. It’s what allows site teams to execute confidently, knowing that every service, space, and system has been well thought through.

Overcoming Challenges, Building Resilience
While M&E work spans the entire project lifecycle, the most demanding stage often comes at the end during testing and commissioning. This is when systems come alive, and every design decision is put to the test.
“Installation is the easy part,” See Jun explains. “The real challenge begins when the system starts running, that’s when we see if everything truly works.”
These moments test both patience and precision. Sometimes, that means working through festive periods or late into the night to ensure every system runs smoothly before handover.
For See Jun, that’s simply part of the commitment that comes with the job.

Leading with Experience and Empathy
Having grown from a fresh graduate to a senior manager, See Jun now leads by example, supporting her team and mentoring younger colleagues. She believes in recognising everyone’s strengths and helping each person contribute in their own way.
“Every project teaches you something new,” she reflects. “In the beginning, it’s all about technical skills. As you grow, it becomes about people — how to manage, communicate, and work as one.”
Inspiring the Next Generation
After two decades in the field, what keeps See Jun motivated is the people — her teammates, mentors, and the satisfaction of seeing each project come to life. But she also hopes to see more young engineers joining the industry.
“I hope more young people will join this industry. It’s tough, but rewarding. Every challenge teaches you something new.”
Her message to the next generation is simple: embrace the challenges, learn from every experience, and take pride in the systems that power our world.
Because in every project Tiong Seng builds, it’s people like See Jun who ensure that the unseen works — seamlessly.
